CGC Energia is an innovative company in Brazil's community solar segment.
When it comes to a project such as CGC Energia's, with 43 plants in operation and 7 more under construction, some questions may arise as to how the entire process works.
For example, how does the energy generated by the power plants work and where does it go?
CGC Energia offers projects with Shared Generation, in which the plants will be dedicated for the customers' consumption. This happens through the Electric Energy Compensation System, an important rule brought by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) in 2012, which allows that all energy generated in solar plants can be transformed into energy credits, and thus reduce the amount payable in the customers' monthly energy bill.
Within this framework, CGC Energia co-invests, builds, leases and operates the solar plants. A solar plant (or fraction of it) is allocated to serve one or more clients, and they receive credits on their bills and pay CGC.
CGC Energia works with energy distributors such as CPFL Paulista, Cemig, and Elektro, where the energy produced by the photovoltaic panels of the CGC Energia plants is converted into energy credits.
This happens as follows: this energy produced by CGC is injected into the distributor's network and transformed into credits that will reduce the value of the customer's bill. This value is based on the amount of energy credits that were used in the month, from this, the customers that use this energy pay CGC Energia directly. Part of this remuneration is directed to the investors through monthly dividends, with estimated annual yields (IRR) above 17%, for 25 years.
In this proposal, the project is developed in an SCP structure, where CGC Energia acts as an ostensive partner and holds all the responsibility and technical, operational, and commercial administration, while the investor is a participating partner, being responsible in the contract only for the initial contribution of resources for the construction of the plant, and, in return, participates in the results obtained in the project in which he invested.
Thus, in this type of investment of corporate order, the investment has an attractive profitability expectation, ideal for investors who seek recurring income and equity formation.
